Solar energy, one of the best solutions for energy efficiency in buildings
Our educational centre CBM Cruz de Piedra chose to make good savings and energy efficiency by installing solar panels

Sustainable construction is a trend that has begun to settle and every day more architects, among other professionals, seek their constructions to be sustainable and friendly to the environment.
Today we have been able to speak and share opinions with Mr. Luis Ruíz Blázquez, architect and teacher at our CBM Cruz de Piedra school.
As our expert tells us, energy savings and efficiency are sought in constructions, although the materials used are expensive since they are groundbreaking. However, in the long run the energy savings that it will mean will make it a productive investment.
This is the case of solar modules, also called solar panels, which can be found in many buildings, one of them being our CBM Cruz de Piedra, in which we have these panels installed. Mr. Luis has explained to us that the solar panels of our school are photovoltaic and are made up of solar cells that capture sunlight and transform it into electrical energy and therefore ?by using less non-renewable energies and more renewable one, such as solar energy, we are creating buildings that do not harm the environment or waste its resources ?.
There are many benefits of placing solar panels:
- It is a clean, ecological, free, abundant, and inexhaustible energy.
- Since photovoltaic panels do not have moving parts, they suffer much less breakage.
- There are no greenhouse gas emissions so solar energy is environmentally friendly.
- Energy is available almost anywhere there is sun.
- Operation and maintenance costs are considered low compared to other systems.
- The panels are totally silent and do not produce any type of noise.
- They are easy to install and are located in free spaces of the house such as the rooftop so as not to interfere with people's lives.
Therefore, this educational center contributes to environmental benefit by reducing gas emissions, which leads to an improvement in air quality.
Apart from the solar panels, we have been able to know that when it comes to investing in energy saving and efficiency, it is also a great inversion to isolate the exterior part of houses, being the insulating materials of the enclosure and the metal carpentry what is paid more attention. "Building a sustainable building improves the quality of life of the people who inhabit that building, lengthens the life cycle of the building and benefits the environment that surrounds it."
Nowadays, everyone knows the environmental problem. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time and it is urgent to find ways, at least, to slow down the process. The question we should ask ourselves is: How can we use the 'butterfly effect' in order to lead to a healthy future for our world? Let us think that our decisions have an impact on the environment.
