Suppose you lead a sedentary life for a long time. You move little, walk less, spend a lot of time sitting.
Suppose you also eat lots. And even so you don't gain weight. Besides, you  are never hungry after eating. And  you often gorge yourself , in coming the fats, pastries, and all rich and good things that you have to hand.
However (and this is not an assumption), you are the perfect candidate to suffer in the near future from type 2 diabetes mellitus. And I swear,  and we have asked those who suffer from it, you'll regret not having changed your habits before.
What is this disease? The pancreas, by age or by over-work, does not secrete enough insulin, whereas cells lose sensitivity to insulin. As a result, the amount of glucose in blood is uncontrolled and cellular metabolism becomes poor.
90% of diabetics suffer from type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a supervening type of diabetes , i.e. not born with it, but  acquired, although there may be a genetic component. However, it is generally oneself who, due to not having led a healthy lifestyle, is to blame for suffering from this type of diabetes .
What are the major risk factors? They are:
Family illness history and genetics.
A low level of activity (sedentary lifestyle)
A poor diet
Overweight, especially when fat is concentrated around the waist
Ethnicity (African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans have high rates of diabetes)
Age 45 and over
Glucose intolerance previously identified by the doctor
Hypertension
HDL (good cholesterol) of less than 35 mg / dL or triglyceride levels above 250 mg / dL
History of gestational diabetes for women
Often patients with type 2 diabetes have no symptoms, especially at the beginning of the disease. Although not always identified as symptoms of the disease, they begin to appear in time. The most important are:
-Blurred vision or sudden changes in vision, forming tiny crystals that stand in the visual field formed by the osmotic imbalance in uncontrolled diabetes.
- Erectile dysfunction in diabetic patients of long duration.
-Fatigue, tiredness, nausea and vomiting. It often appears excessive appetite,  also called polyphagia, as well as excessive thirst, called polydipsia, accompanied by an increased frequency of urination, and in large quantities, also called polyuria. As for the skin, it becomes drier, itchy skin appears and also genital irritation, numbness in hands and feet and cuts or wounds are slow to heal.
Type 2 diabetes may go unnoticed for many years, and in some cases it is diagnosed when irreversible damage has occurred in the body. Therefore it is recommended that everybody has  a blood glucose test at least once a year. In any case, this disease always produces a decrease in the quality of life, and requires, if you want to have it under control, a radical change in your habits. First, physical exercise: to burn the excess of blood glucose it is necessary to take regular exercise, like walking vigorously for at least an hour a day, and the more the better.
We must also change our diet. The first thing to do is to lose weight, because it is proven that a high level of fat, especially concentrated in the waist, hinders the operation of the pancreas and lowers insulin production. We must also reduce the intake of carbohydrates and fats in general.
You should keep a constant check on the amount of glucose in blood, to try to keep within the limits and thus prevent serious damage to your body. You can do it yourself with a glucose meter.
Medication is necessary. In principle, you can use oral medications, but if diabetes worsens you must resort to insulin injections.
This type of diabetes can be prevented if you lead a healthy life, controlling your weight and the food you eat. If you don't  follow these steps, your life will change completely, and you will have to control your weigh, be on a diet and do a lot of exercise for the rest of your life,  in addition to medication. It is preferable to make sacrifices from the beginning and not having to adapt  all areas of your life to the disease later.
